Frederick Samuel Tallmadge (1824-1904) was president of the Association of Descendants of the Officers of the American Revolution of 1783. This association was founded in 1883 in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Revolution. The founding took place at Fraunces Tavern, at the same place as the original celebration in 1783. Tallmadge purchased this historic building and donated it to the society. In gratitude, he was immortalised by issuing this token. The reverse side depicts the building. Brenner designed the medal and exhibited it in Brussels at the Salon of the Medal in 1910. The same year, it was also shown at the New York Medallic Exhibition.
