Victor Joseph Mirland was a teacher of chemistry, metallurgy and materials science in Mons. He later taught analytical chemistry before switching to teaching general chemistry of minerals in 1892. Victor Joseph Mirland was a teacher of chemistry, metallurgy and materials science in Mons. He later taught analytical chemistry before switching to teaching general chemistry of minerals in 1892. He retired in 1921. Together with his colleague Jules Demaret-Freson, he celebrated 25 years of teaching in 1907. Godfried Devreese engraved a portrait medal for both of them, but judging by the date mentioned on the obverse (1908), it was presented only some time after the anniversary.
