The Summer Course provides the participants with a clear insight into the Flemish art collections from the period at hand, as well as into the available and most suited research methods, the state of the research and the research needs. We expect active participation from the participants, with a discussion following each lecture.
After the successful first Summer Course 'The age of van Eyck in context', we now focus on Peter Paul Rubens and the Baroque in the Southern Netherlands. 'The age of Rubens in context' takes place from June 19 through June 29, 2016. The content is coordinated by the Rubenianum and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Excursions will be made to Antwerp, Brussels, Mechelen, Sherpenheuvel, Bruges, Ghent, Rotterdam en The Hague. The language of the summer course is English.
Thanks to the generous support of the Flemish Government the participation fee of the Summer Course is fixed at €900 per person. The fee includes the full 11-day programme, 10 overnight hotel stays (Antwerp) in a single-occupancy room, all transportation within the programme, all entry tickets, 2 receptions, 6 lunches and 4 dinners. Not included in the participation fee is the transportation to and from Belgium.
To facilitate students with limited financial means the organisation of the Summer Course for the Study of the Arts in Flanders together with the Flemish Government has made available 2 grants of €450 each. These grants will be awarded (preferably) to one European and one non-European applicant. The recipients of the grant will pay a reduced participation fee of €450 instead of the regular fee.
Participants have a master's degree or are PhD-student, and they are specialised in Baroque art from the Southern Netherlands. The master's degree was earned maximum 10 years ago.
