Worldwide, Marcel De Maeyer is acknowledged for his Ensor research. As a curator of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, he also contributed significantly to the development of the Ensor collection at the museum. As a member of diverse boards and committees of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, he modestly supported the activities of the museum for years.
For Marcel (De) Maeyer, painting was to him more than the proverbial ‘violon d’Ingres’. The Royal Museum of Fine Arts proudly and positively looks back to the exhibitions of the works by Marcel Maeyer in the museum.
Herwig Todts, Senior Curator Modern Art at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, wrote an article on the importance of Marcel De Meayer for the Ensor research, his value as an art historian and professor, and his artistic ambitions.
