Worldwide, Marcel De Maeyer is acknowledged for his Ensor research. As a curator of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, he also contributed significantly to the development of the Ensor collection at the museum. As a member of diverse boards and committees of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, he modestly supported the activities of the museum for years.
