This cartoon takes a look at the celebration of the first centenary of the Amsterdam Schouwburg on Keizersgracht on 7 January 1738. In the foreground are three Protestant church reformers with texts criticising the jubilee. On the left is Martin Luther, in the middle Menno Simons and on the right Johannes Calvin. Menno Simons' text calls for a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Utrecht (1713). In the background is a play depicting an Arcadian landscape with Apollo and other mythological figures, putti, nymphs etc.
