These impressions teach us that the painter is a refined Orientalist, who specializes in landscapes, hunting scenes and scenes from North-African life. Works such as The Lion Hunt and Horsemen at the foot of the Chiffa cliffs bear witness to the artist’s marked interest in the power of nature. They are characterized by a vibrating light and a subtle colour palette, which lend considerable expressiveness to the whole tableau.
