This medal was originally designed by Godfried Devreese in 1901, commissioned by Tournai mayor Victor Carbonnelle (1840-1927) as a token for the municipal councillors. The obverse depicts the porcelain industry, for which Tournai was very well known, while the reverse lists all the members of the municipal council. In subsequent years, the same obverse continued to be used with changing reverses. Even after World War I, this medal was re-enacted with the liberation of Tournai by the British army on the reverse.
