Born in Paris, Charpentier was a pupil of Ponscarme, who was behind the innovation of medal art. From 1874 he exhibited regularly at the Paris Salons, and in 1909 there was a separate exhibition of his work that included this plaque. It depicts on the front a young painter with brushes and a palette in hand.
