Each year the Flemish Art Collection (VKC) selects fifteen young international researchers and curators to engage with an aspect of art from our region through lectures, workshops and collection visits. The emphasis is on hands-on experiences, a look behind-the-scenes and discussions with experts. The theme of this edition is art from the Belgian fin de siècle. The edition includes all the highlights from the previous fin de siècle edition (2018), but there will also be a specific emphasis on gender, on the social and political context (popular culture, urban development, world exhibitions, colonialism) and on the changing visual culture and art market. In addition to artistic focuses on painting, sculpture, drawings, prints, architecture, design and literature, the program includes a focus on photography, fashion and theater.
MSK and Mu.ZEE are the organizing partners. Questions regarding the 9th edition of the Summer Course can be addressed to griet.bonne@stad.gent.
